I really can’t put how I feel right now into words, but I will try.  Sorry if this becomes a ramble.  When we first started organizing this event I thought that if we got a few teams great.  As the event got closer, I continued to receive calls/texts about bringing teams.  My response to everyone was basically, “bring them along, we will make it work”.  Well, today I step out of the office and wow, the gym is packed and teams are still filing in.  I start to “panic” a little, print more clues, workouts, scoresheets.  (Thanks to JP and Will, great work).

We get things organized enough to get rolling, what followed was an Amazing RACE (EVENT).  I continue to be motivated by the CrossFit community.  CrossFit athletes are: athletic, strong, motivated, young, old, experienced, inexperienced, determined, so many others.  What they are NOT is:  the ordinary and the majority (maybe one day).

The following is a wonderful post from Terry (CF Legacy):    . . .  my recap on amazing race

Also, for all of you that enjoyed the Chickpea Chocolate Chip Cookies, here is the Chickpea Chocolate Chip Cookies, courtesy of Pam Neckar

Here are the details of the RACE:

  • Teams of 4

Workout 1:

  • 3 rounds
  • 30 Air Squats . .  20 Push Ups . . 7 Power Snatches (95/75)
  • Each member must hit each station 3x, but you can’t move on to next skill until entire team is kneeling
  • Get a clue, jump in car/truck and locate area 2

Workout 2:  Happy Days Trail

  • 2.5 Mile Trail Run
  • Lots of “lost” runners here
  • I was called every name in the book for this one…. next time follow the directions
  • Get a clue, jump in car/truck and locate area 3

Workout 3:  Hudson First n Main

  • 75 Partner Handstand Pushups
  • … each 15 HSPU, team must complete 50 burpees
  • Get a clue, jump in car/truck and locate area 4

Workout 4:  Lock 29

  • Run up Initiation Hill . . . steep grade, 1/4 mile up (and back down)
  • x 100 Power Cleans . . x 100 Wall Balls . . x 50 Muscle Ups
  • This is where things got a little sketchy.  The “park po po” showed up and shut us down, sort of.  We had to bring the rings down (so we improvised and had teams do 150 dips).  Next time we will get a permit, this time we smile, pat backs and ask for forgiveness.  It worked, sort of
  • Get a clue, jump in car/truck and locate area 5

Workout 5:  SPC CrossFit

  • x 100 Pullups . . x 200 Box Hops . . x 100 OHS (95/75)
  • Finished
  • Total Time:  UNDER 3 HOURS

Workout 6:  Stuff your face

  • Thank you to Mike and Craig for being grill masters
  • Thank you to everyone else for bringing a dish to pass

This event was also organized to help the Wounded Warrior Project.  Donations were accepted.  We didn’t secure as much as I would have liked, but maybe next time.  We will not forget about these wonderful men and women.

I am amazed that we could have 23 teams, over 90 athletes and NO ISSUES.  NO trash talking, no fighting, no stealing, nothing, just great camaraderie and competition.  When the competition is over, everyone ate together, laughed together and enjoyed swapping stories and forming friendships.  How many other fitness centers, sports can say that?

I LOVE CROSSFIT and the CROSSFIT COMMUNITY of NE OHIO.  Great work by everyone.  Hope to do this again in about a month or so.  Keep an eye open for details.

Thank you to the following people:

  • Brett Sepi
  • Joe Weigel
  • John Phillips
  • Will Jencius
  • Heidi Myers (my wonderful, supporting and amazing girlfriend)
  • other affiliate owners
  • the athletes
  • Cuyahoga Valley National Park Rangers

This past Saturday we took SPC CF on the road.  SPC had the chance to show our program to the residents of Calls Farm (Stow).  We had a great turnout from the SPC athletes, a few newbies from Calls Farm and a great group of KIDS.

We split everyone up into teams and tackled a little team workout.

Teams of 3:

  • MB Toss n Run  (cone n back)
  • Partners perform max burpees until thrower returns
  • 5 rounds for each person
  • ….then x 75 Power Cleans (team)
  • …. then run around the little park x 2 laps

Following the adults we had a CrossFit Kids session.  We ended up with about 10 kids and they loved every minute of it.  Actually had kids asking for more as we were cleaning up.

We played a game for the warm up, taught them “air squats” and then ran through a little course.  Great kids, great time.

This is just a reminder for the entire community (Hudson & Twinsburg) that we will have ONE outdoor session on Saturday morning at 9am. We will NOT be at The Barn. We’ll be at Call Farms instead. The following map shows how to get there from The Barn. It’s pretty close by. Someone will probably be at The Barn to remind any late comers.

Just follow the map and you’ll see us outside as you enter Call Farms.

Ok, so I was humbled yesterday by the good ol’ SNATCH.  I knew going into this workout that it was a weakness of mine, maybe that is why I was so nervous.  (another reason I love CF)  Anyways, as I pushed through the workout, getting more and more frustrated with my weakness I came to a ahhhhaaa moment.  Right then and there I realized that I needed a goal for the summer, something to drive my training.  My goal is to improve in the SNATCH, enough to snatch my bodyweight (currently 190ish).  I know that this is a lofty goal, going to require lots of hard work, frustration and probably many failures.  Oh well, life is not paved on even ground, free of obstacles and potholes.  BABBLE, BABBLE, what am I getting at.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH THIS SUMMER (JUNE – SEPT)?

I WOULD LIKE ALL ATHLETES TO COME UP WITH A GOAL FOR THE SUMMER.  MAKE THIS GOAL A CHALLENGE, SOMETHING THAT IS GOING TO REQUIRE A LITTLE SWEAT AND DISCOMFORT.  NEXT TIME THAT YOU SEE ME, TELL ME YOUR GOAL AND I AM GOING TO PUT IT ON THE GOAL BOARD (I WILL WRITE IT DOWN, OCD KICKING IN).

THEN WE WILL GO AFTER THOSE GOALS WITH EVERYTHING THAT WE HAVE.  THERE IS NO PRIZE, LITTLE RECOGNITION, JUST THE GOOD OLE IDEA THAT WE HAVE ACCOMPLISHED SOMETHING.
