I am certified through the National Athletic Trainers Association, and National Strength and Conditioning Association and Crossfit Level I Certification, Crossfit Olympic Certifications, CrossFit Endurance, and CrossFit Kids. I teach at Kent Roosevelt H.S (Kent,OH) in a program called Athletic Health Care and Fitness. During the fall semester, I am also a guest lecturer at the University of Akron in the area of Strength and Conditioning. I have been an ATC for the past 12 years and have had the privledge of training athletes ranging from highschool to professional levels. Prior to becoming a teacher, I spent two seasons working in the Baltimore Orioles minor league system. Before joining the Orioles, I spent one season within the Boston Red Sox minor league system. I enjoy training all types of individuals, from youth to professional athletes. If the athlete is willing to push themselves to become better, then I am willing to push myself to make them better.
I began training with the Crossfit methods about 4 years ago and WOW, the results are amazing. The workouts are intense, challenging and most of all FUN. I have improved physically across the board. My strength, power, agility, endurance, etc have all improved. I have trained using many different techniques, protocols and methods and nothing stacks up to CROSSFIT. CrossFit is changing the strength and conditioning and fitness industries and I am glad to be a member of this wonderful community.

I am currently a senior at Kent State University and will be graduating in August. I am majoring in Human Movement Studies and I am planning on attending Grad School starting next fall. I have been CrossFitting for about 4 years and I have been at SPC the entire time. I have received my Level 1 and Nutrition certifications. Crossfit has changed my life in so many ways and training at SPC helps me continue to change my life while helping others change theirs. I will be competing in the CrossFit Games Regionals in May.

I am currently a senior at Kent Roosevelt, and have been CrossFitting for just over two years. After beginning my training in 2007, I competed in the 2008 CrossFit games and completed my Level 1 Certification that December. Since then, I’ve been training myself and others at SPC CrossFit. Along with CrossFit, I play soccer and lacrosse at Kent Roosevelt, as well as kayaking, climbing and cycling.

JP has been CrossFitting for two years. While he has grown (and shrunk) quite a bit in those two years, he is more likely to talk about the “other” benefits of CrossFit training outside of increased strength and improved fitness. He often speaks of the ways in which his training has affected his life outside the Barn. It has helped him to be more focused and better in his professional life, given him a real sense of pride and accomplishment as well as a greater stamina to just make it through the day. He never forgets to remember what it was like “in the beginning” and often shares those stories with newcomers. His typical response to questions of weight loss and shaping up: “those used to be my pants!” (which hang on the wall of the Barn).

Kate has been an SPC CrossFitter for two years. She has a high intensity level and is a strong advocate for promoting and supporting female athletes. She has come a long way in the two years she has been with us. She is very humble about the fact that she has lost 65 pounds since the beginning and credits Toby’s program and some sound dietary advice.
Kate placed second in the Northeast Ohio CrossFit Challenge in June of 2009. She prefers weighted workouts and the rower to body weight and running and will always stick around after a workout to encourage others (rather intensely :-) ).

I am a junior at Kent Roosevelt High School. I began doing CrossFit about a year and a half ago, and completed my Level 1 Certification in January, 2010. I have experienced enormous benefits from CrossFit both physically and in many other aspects of my life. There’s nothing else like it. I love to train and push myself to new limits every day, and I love helping others push themselves just as hard. My main goal is to become the best athlete and trainer that I can be. In addition to CrossFit, I play baseball for Kent Roosevelt and enjoy playing any other sports that I can.
